For 2026–27, the AVID senior class is growing to 117 students and the junior class to 138—helping even more first-generation students achieve their college dreams.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an internationally recognized program whose mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. The AVID model has been very successful at preparing our students for university admission and success in college.

At MVLA, we are fortunate to have an enriched AVID program which has made an even larger impact on the success of our low-income, first-generation students by providing:

• Mentors at the upper grade levels
• Financial support for SAT and AP testing fees and college application fees
• Exposure to different pathways and careers through company visits and workshops
• Mock interviews and mock career fairs
• Job shadowing and internships

The MVLA High School Foundation provides critical funding for many of these enhancements.

To support even more students, our goal is to provide an additional $20,000 this year. The first $10,000 in donations will be matched by a group of anonymous donors!
